How to stay organised at University: A short guide.

Organisation is the key to success. It is easy to find yourself stressed and flustered when you aren’t organised. This post will highlight some easy ways to stay organised during University in order to work efficiently and effectively.

First, tidy your room! A tidy room leads to a tidy mind. Most of my course requires independent study so I work a lot from my bedroom. I have developed a habit of cleaning my desk space and tidying up every morning so I can work without any distractions. If you have a LOT of stuff then maybe it’s time to declutter.

The next thing to do is ensure your books, notepads, folders etc are all organised. Have notes and books easily accessible and give everything a home. File away loose notes so that nothing is lost, or type them up if you are liable to lose paper. Keep drawers organised by having everything arranged in a way that you can see what is in there, avoid layering things up as this can lead to you thinking something is lost but really it is just buried under a pile of stuff. Baskets or tubs are an easy way to organise drawers.

To stay organised on a day-to-day basis, invest in a diary. I never used diaries before but at University, I am constantly checking. Spend an hour writing down key dates and times for things throughout the year and check every morning what you have planned for the week. Make sure you re-adjust accordingly in case plans change. Alternatively, find an app that works for you with reminders if you prefer a digital version.

In order to stay organised, it can help to get into a routine. Sleep patterns are so important at Uni. Whilst most people think you need to pull all-nighters in order to get things done (which you will see in my next blog post is simply a myth), it is actually easier to stay organised when maintaining a good sleeping pattern. This allows you to feel well-rested throughout the day and then if you set yourself targets to achieve by the end of the day, you are more likely to succeed!

That’s all for today’s post. I hope you find some of these tips useful!! My next blog post will reveal some of the myths of university, so stay tuned for that!

I hope you all have a great day.
